Pressure sand filters are most suitable for removing the suspended solids from water. In these filter, the filtration medium has multiple layer of sand, where each layer has different porosity.
Pressure sand filters are provided with water pump for generating necessary operating pressure. For Filtration, water is passed through multi grade sand filter at a pressure of 3.5 kg/cm2 that reduce the presence of suspended solids in the water.
The filter effectively removes suspended solid of sized up to 30-50 micron The impurities accumulate in form of cake on the sand bed which is dislodged periodically by back-washing the media along with air scouring.
